Garden Time! May with Bonus Cicadas!

Cher Lectours! (Dear Readers!) Happy Mid-May!

Completing required documents to apply for Italian Dual Citizenship is such a process, and a process I have been in for the last 4 years to some degree. Dang it and dare I say I am getting closer to completing the documentation required? Shhh. Once completed some documents need ribbons and various certifications and then they have to get to Italy. Do I take them myself? Send them via courior? A courier might be just as expensive and not quite as delicious. What could possibly happen? Will this story be a BOOK? Stay tuned.

May planting! A while ago, I made a funny little post on Instagram about having quite a few cherokee purple tomato starts to contend with. There were about 75 of them at one point. I have planted about 15 of them in both our gardens. Local friends have come and taken some home to their garden. Do you need a cherokee purple in your life? Let me know if you are local.

Between both gardens we now have peach, apple, blueberry, and pawpaw. Meyer lemon and key lime. Rhubarb is getting stronger, despite the flower it produced - did you know you should remove trhe flower as soon as it starts - that way the plant will put energy into the stalks. Even in a cicada year?

Is there is some hope that some peaches will survive?

We planted padron, poblano and jimmy nardello peppers. Eggplants like rosa bianco, asian delight, black beauty and fairytale. And of course, don’t worry there’s squash to behold and bechamel too. Acorn, butternut yellow pattypan, and your garden variety of green zucchini. Wish I could find the Rond de Nice squash. Lest I be hasty there should be sugar snap peas. Soon.

Do you have a garden? Send me a photo of what you are growing to be included in next month’s newsletter!
